GUARDIANS EVENT REPORT by Emip

The first 2009 Guardians Tournament was a success! Congratulations to Gabe Dobkin for winning the Club Champion title with his Eldar army.

We had a total of 13 members who participated in the tournament, all which walked away with prizes. In addition, we had 5 new members sign up and a good number of existing members stopping by throughout the day to watch the games, socialize and eat some lunch.

We want to thank WarDogs for providing the space, terrain tables, and prize support. Also many thanks to Borderlands Comics & Games, Broadswords Comics & Games, and Sun Coast Comics for the additional prizes.

The event started with a few of us showing up before the doors where opened and we quickly got to work setting up. Thanks to Hector and Nandy and everyone else who showed up before the tournament to set up terrain.

Breakfast stuff was on hand for members and all the participants showed up early enough to eat and talk Warhammer.

Round 1 began shortly after 10 p.m. with 12 players slugging it out for the win. The round ended at 12:30 p.m. at which time the BBQ lunch was served. The food was great and 45 minutes was alloted to eat and more Warhammer talk.

After everyone had their guts filled, we started Round 2, continued through to Round 3 and finished the last round by 6:45 p.m. After announcing the winner, we picked prizes from the pile of donations in order of highest score. The results are listed below, along with the three missions. Everyone seemed to enjoy the bonus points 40k trivia questions. Photos of the event soon to be posted on the Guardians website. Finally, thanks to everyone who stayed behind and helped clean up.

MISSION 1 - TREASURE HUNT

Deploy your forces using the Pitched Battle rules as detailed in the rulebook.

After terrain set-up but prior to rolling for deployment sides, alternate placing five objectives 12” from each other and table edges.

Each objective must be revealed before attempting to control it. To do so, a scoring model must first touch the marker, then the model’s owning player rolls a d6. On a 4+ the objective is a real one, otherwise it's a decoy and removed from the table. If there happens to be only one unrevealed objective marker left on the table and all previous markers turned out to be a decoy, then this last marker is a real one and no roll to reveal the objective is necessary.

At the end of the game, the player with the most objectives wins.

MISSION 2 - THE HUNTED

Deploy your forces using the Spearhead rules as detailed in the rulebook.

Secretly write down two (2) of your opponent’s units on a piece of paper. Be specific on unit description or name so as not to confuse the selected unit with a similar one. Transport Vehicles may not be selected. These units are marked for death.

Determine who won the mission by revealing your picks at the end of the game. The player who destroyed most of their targeted units wins the game. Destroyed means no models left on the table because they have either been killed or have fled off the battle board.

(Designer's Notes: Some confusion occured on this mission and the following statement should have been added "Exchange your army list with your opponent. Secretly write...")

MISSION 3 - SEEK AND DESTROY

After terrain is set up roll off for initiative. The winner chooses to be the attacker or the defender. Daemon and Dark Eldar armies will always be the attacker. The defender sets up first by choosing a long table edge, placing an objective marker centered and 10" from his table edge, and deploying one core unit within 12" of his table edge. Characters may not be attached to this unit. All other units are on reserve, deep striking, or outflanking. The defender also has d3 mine tokens, and d3 trigger charges at his disposal. See rules below.

The attacking player begins with all his units off the board, coming in from his table edge on Turn 1, if not placed on reserve, deep striking, or on outflanking orders. The defender may seize the initiative. Which ever force controls the objective by the end of the game wins.

Landmines
Each landmine token has a radius of 6” and is considered dangerous terrain to friend or foe. Place each token anywhere on the board after deploying forces.

Trigger Charges
Activate during owning player's shooting phase. Select any model within 12" of the objective and use the blast template, roll scatter dice and a d6 for diviation. Any model touching the template takes a S4 AP4 hit.
