Help wit basing, need it and fast
Ok here is what I would like to know: What is the material that Billy used to make the rocky base for his chaos mounted warlord? Where would be the best places to look for that stuff? What is the best way to cut/carve or whatever for it? How do you go about painting it?
Please someone get back to me on this, I have a Christmas project that I am working on and I need to get my hands on some of that to move on to the next step. Its the best thing that I can think of to make a pillar that is around 1" high and can fit into the center part of a PP 30mm base.

Ok if I am right after looking at some 40k forums, I am looking for foam core aka that pink insulation that you can get a huge sheet of at Home Depo. To bad the people who wrote up those how to guides did not mention wether you can prime it or not and for the most part they just said paint it. Why do some people who do these things not write a good guide and give better instrutions, isn't that the point of a tutorial?

Unfortunately, I have never found foam core in small quantities; just the massive sheets from the home stores. It cuts with an xacto or styrofoam cutter. Your cut to shape, attach and seal it with elmers glue and let dry before base coating. (If you seal it well with elmers, then you can prime with spray paint.) You can also use fine cork, but it isn't quite as forgiving when shaping it.

You sometimes can find it at hobby stores... ie Hobby world or michaels... But normall it cost more to the smaller pices then just to buy a big sheet.

I know Randy has alot of luck with the pink stuff you get at home depot, and yeah, if you want to prime it then seal it first. I looked around to see if we had any left over from the last batch we bought, but we dont, the good news is that it doesnt go bad, so it'll be around for future needs. (:

Thanks for the info. I did find some smaller thinker foam that is smooth, I haven't gotten around to playing with it yet. I might pull out a knife or something sharp to cut it down and sand it tonight. Right now it is a 73mmx98mmx200mm block and I think that should be more then enough to last me a while. As for cork I found some as well, but its not as think as I was hoping it to be. I will also have to play with that and see how well it can hold up a model that is just stuck into with pins to help with painting. I have a good deal of work to do for this idea I have for the PG Christmas model xchange that I signed up for. I will try and get some pictures up as I get to work on it.
