Cygnar Painting Commission pics
Hello folks (especially Chris). Posting here, because there's no "Art" forum to put all gaming artworks done. Hopefully they'll change that, as per my suggestion in the "suggestion" forum.
Just starting a thread to post the work I've done on the Cygnar jacks I'm painting for my client. Since I live nearly two hours away, I figured it'd be a way to show my progress and get feedback, so I can return to Orange Park every other week with a good-looking model.
As such, here are a couple more 'jacks.
The Ironclad:
And the Hunter (using Reaper's "Military Blues" triad... and better photography techniques):
Any and all feedback is appreciated.

As usual, they are looking good. I cannot tell, because my screen is not the best, but do you have shadow and highlights in the larger blue spaces? I have been experiementing with layering shadows and highlights on the large areas of my Khador jacks. I have found that moving from darks to lights to create a highlight over the curvature of the space, and then washing the area with the citadel color (in this case red) to minimize any brush strokes, have turned out pretty well. I will try to post a photo here. Mitch

Yep. Since I got the Reaper Triads, that's what I've been doing. Using the "Steel Triad" and the "Military Blues", that's how I did the latter model. The Ironclad I did in my normal way. The Hunter (the second one) appears much better. I used the shades "sleely blue" and "shadowed steel", washed them with my "messianic" ink, let dry, then layered up with the base and highlight colors.

Very good, I thought that the second appeared to have the highlights, and I thought that the first might benefit from a bit more of them across the crown of its chassis. Although, I must admit that I find the large smooth spaces to be the greatest challenge (can't cheat in these spaces with magic washes or inks). Unfortunately, the forum won't let me upload the image of my Destroyer. I like being able to share the work right from the bench; so, I'll have to find a easy way to archive and load to the forum.

Re: Cygnar Painting Commission pics
I use photobucket for all my pictures. It has an easy mass-uploader option, and when the pictures are loaded, it has a drop-down menu under each picture where you can click on the option you want to post, whether it be a direct link to the picture (if you're on an IM or in a chat room and want to show the picture), or a pre-typed image code for forum-posting. Just that it can be kind of spammy, so you might want to use an e-mail address that you don't mind getting clogged with photobucket's e-mails of "Check out what we got now!" stuff.

Here's a link to a bit of a fuzzy photo of my jack. It does purposefully have the weathered look. Unfortunately, it would not load directly.

If you surround that link with "[ i m g]" and a"[/ i m g]" (no spaces, no quotes), you'll have the pic directly displayed.
Awesome war-hardened look on the thing. Mine are mint off the assembly line, yours have survived several theater operations...
Also, I had just learned a lot about how to use my own digital camera from this post (click me!) on Privateer Press' forums. I can actually SEE my models in pictures. Yours came out a bit blurry, so you may want to try setting your camera with the suggestions from the Macrophotography thread I linked.

Thanks for the thread. It is very helpful. When I am not rushed I use a tripod and my painting lights, and can get a better image. M

Hey, Mitch. Just what do you use for yellows? I've not found a single yellow that covers like I want it to, other than the Citadel Evanden Sun, but that's only ONE color. How would I make my yellows stick out better, and hopefully avoid the seeping they tend to do into cracks?

Re: Cygnar Painting Commission pics
Roy, I always base with bubonic brown first (I do this for golds that I want to jump out as well). After that, I find that any of the yellows stand out well. However, I too have not been particularly happy with the runniness of citadel yellows. I have been meaning to try reaper or vallejo for yellows, as well as some of the khaki earth tones because citadel's versions of these colors tend to be runnny as well. M

Cygnar Painting
I have been painting some Cygnar for a friend, and I thought I'd get some feedback. He had asked that they be a bit battle hardened. Any suggestions? Sorry if any of the pics are pixelated (I used a tripod and as much light as I had available) .
